![]() ![]() What else is new? I already owe a two year old Pizza bet for the PlayStation 5’s release date but what the hell, right? Super Mario Galaxy 2 is coming to the Nintendo Switch in April 2021. Yes an ambitious assumption by yours truly. ![]() With that said, it is about time that we get started with the June and July Progress Report. So, let’s state this right off the bat. We graciously thank everyone for their kind words over the past few months, and hope you continue to enjoy using Dolphin Emulator. And while we'd love to revel in past accomplishments, there's still so much more work to be done. Sometimes with all the negativity in emulation, it's refreshing to have something that makes both the developers and the users happy. We love these games and consoles the same as you, and we want to make sure that they live on. The gratitude we received from users finally able to try previously hard-to-access features in their favorite games was so appreciated. It was heartwarming to see long-time users able to play Four Swords Adventures with their kids or friends across the world. In contrast to that narrative, the overwhelmingly positive reaction to some of the features added the last few months, including heartfelt reactions from users, make all of the challenges and struggles so much easier.Īs we drift further from the heyday of the GameCube and Wii, we've been seeing a greater impact not only on the past generations of gamers, but the current one. There's a lot of negativity and questions around the merit and purpose of emulation. So, without further delay, let's get started with the August Progress Report! Enjoy.Įmulation is often seen as this suspect gray area of gaming that is tolerated but always on the edge. All of these contributions, even if it's not code, are appreciated and help make Dolphin what it is today. They went on difficult debugging adventures, caught small issues that would be invisible to anyone who wasn't extremely familiar with the game, and even came up with patches to make games friendlier to emulator enhancements. In this Progress Report, the gaming communities were the direct catalyst to many of the changes. However, it's important to state that our relationship with gaming communities is mutual, and without the help of players and fans, there's no way we could handle maintaining a library of thousands of games. Sometimes it's simply more convenient to use an emulator that runs on your desktop, tablet, or phone rather than to dig out and hook up the original console every time you want to play one of your favorite games. Emulators are an important part of many classic game communities and give players access to features like netplay multiplayer, modding, and savestates, while also opening up the doors to enhancements not possible on console. Many gaming communities over the years have reached out to thank emulator developers for their efforts. Please enjoy these rather lengthy Notable Changes! With that out of the way, there's no point in delaying things any further. ![]() While it's not related to Dolphin directly, Apple released the new M1 Max and we got our hands on one to see how it stacks up against the M1 with some rather interesting performance numbers at the end of the report. This beta was mostly to showcase and let users on the Play Store try out the newly finished Cheat GUI! We'll finally showcase that after a lengthy delay between when that extra beta was pushed and this Progress Report. Speaking of Android, users may have noticed we pushed out an early beta last month. An easy to use GUI for launching Riivolution mods was added both to desktop Dolphin builds and Android. If that wasn't enough, Dolphin also welcomed support for a wealth of mods through support for Riivolution. The fact that the PlayStation 2's floating point behaviors mattered to us for this Progress Report should tell you the kinds of things we were up against when writing up the changes. This Progress Report also contains collaboration with the PCSX2 development team as they helped us understand some of the behaviors of Floating Point Math on the PlayStation 2. Trying to even begin to rectify the problems with this approach and explain the reasoning behind why it sort of wasn't emulated go very, very deep. Dolphin's approach to emulating this bit of the hardware has been to effectively ignore it exists. The first rabbit hole showcases TMEM, the GameCube and Wii's texture cache. That line doesn't exactly work when it's midway through the month, huh? This Progress Report ended up being a very technically challenging report to write with several huge rabbit holes that go through the history of Dolphin and the games themselves. It's the beginning of the month and time for another Dolphin Progress Report!. ![]()

![]() ![]() One is that you now have a new ticker which will keep you informed of how things are going ranging from stuff like crime, people's opinions, and even a UFO attack. There are a couple of other new things that I want to give a special mention to. Overall, if you have played a previous game in the series, you will feel right at home here. Getting to the end of the year and not being broke is always something that causes me to be very pleased with myself. You will never keep all of your citizens truly happy, but you can try your best. There are tons of new buildings and little things to keep you on your toes. You also have agricultural stuff going on as well which believe it or not was new to this. Waste management is now an issue, the larger your city the more likely you are going to have problems with people and their garbage so you need to manage that! Instead, I want to talk about some of the new features they added to the game that I feel make the game feel fuller. I feel that by this point most people know what the deal with this franchise is so I will not bore you with the core details about what SimCity 3000 is all about. It may not sound like a lot, but it works wonders to make the city you are working for, feel like a real place. I feel this one has many more “finer details” you can see cars more clearly driving on the road and pedestrians walking around for example. While it may share that SimCity style that the first few games had. I think that there was a noticeable graphical leap from the last game to this one. However, SimCity 3000 and the other games in the series pull it off to perfection and this one does it with some tongue in cheek and a ton of personality. What is weird is that on paper I know this sounds like the most boring premise for a video game every. The goal is to build a fully functioning city and not be broke at the end of the year when the taxman comes calling. One thing that is constant with all the SimCity games is the goal. ![]() ![]() ![]()
![]() Galileo was the first person to try to measure speed of light. Velocity = change in distance ÷ change in time. In order to calculate velocity, we use this formula: The standard used to describe velocity is meters per second or m/s. The definition of velocity is the rate of change in something’s position. You can use miles per hour, feet per second, meters per second, kilometers per hour – this will give you average speed. So, to get the average speed you divide the miles by the hours: 15 ÷ 0.5 = 30 mph. There are 3 variables in the formula: Average Speed, Distance and Time and as long as you know 2 of the numbers, you can calculate the other one.įor example, the distance to the mall is 15 miles, and the time it took you to get to the mall was 0.5 hours. In order to calculate the average speed, we use this formula:Īverage Speed = Distance travelled ÷ Time So you have to slow down sometimes, speed up sometimes, and make some stops along the way. ![]() ![]() When you travel by car to the mall, the car has to change speed sometimes – stopping for lights, stopping for pedestrians, travelling behind a slow-moving car, etc. When something moves, it doesn’t always stay at the same speed. It could be sideways to the right or sideways to the left, downward or upward, or any angle to the ground. It could be north, south, east, west or any direction in between. It doesn’t matter if the speed is increasing or decreasing or where the object is going, as long as there is a way you can describe where it is headed. It is easy to determine the direction of a velocity vector. 30 mph, and the direction of say north, or to the right (just two examples). If you want to describe an object’s velocity, you mention the speed e.g. So, the difference between speed and velocity is that speed is only how fast something is moving and velocity is how fast something is moving AND the direction. In order for an object to have velocity, every step must go farther away from its starting point. If a man is hopping from one foot to the other as fast as he can but remains in one spot, he has speed but zero velocity. If something is moving back and forth and always returns to its original position, it has speed but zero velocity because it doesn’t change position. Velocity is the rate which an object changes its position. An object that is not moving has zero speed. Something moving slowly, like a walking man, will travel a very short distance in the same amount of time. ![]() For example, something moving very fast, like a train, can cover a large distance in a short time. Speed relates to how fast something is moving and how fast it moves over a distance. Although most people speak of speed and velocity as the same thing, they have distinct and different meanings. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The briefer and trickier these challenges are, the better. ![]() This is on purpose part of the challenge is carefully observing everything in the level, then deliberately moving Captain Toad safely through it. The cubic design of the levels deliberately works to obscure three-fourths of the level at a time: Toad himself, enemy characters, pathways, treasures. The other key element of Captain Toad's design is a gameplay mechanic that the Mario team usually attempts to erase: The camera. These levels were interesting, often challenging, little puzzles that made for nice little mental breaks from the fast-action Mario levels. You've got to figure out how to climb up and down them gathering treasures and avoiding enemies, since you can't jump on their heads. If you played Super Mario 3D World, you'll remember some bonus levels in which Captain Toad-unable to jump because of the heavy burden of his backpack full of treasure-makes his way around tiny cubic levels. That all changes with this week's release of Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, to round out the Wii U's 2014 lineup. And while every other Super Mario supporting character-Yoshi, Luigi, Princess Peach, even freaking Wario-ended up getting their own starring role in a later series, Toad was always the bridesmaid, never the bride. 2 was pulling up weeds, and he was the worst at everything else. Of all of Mario's companions, has anyone had to take as much crap as Toad? Ever since the first time he let you know that the Princess was in another castle, Toad has became synonymous with disappointment. Still, we’ll likely have answers to these questions and more in due time, and Nintendo’s probably thought about the gameplay implications here too.Honestly, I'm just happy Toad finally has his own game. Hence unless a few things are tweaked here, it’s entirely possible they could end up feeling crowded with four players running amuck in such a tiny space. The Captain Toad levels in 3D World were designed as a single player only experience, and are hence much smaller than their equivalents in the standalone game. There’s also the issue of game balance to contend with here too. So it’s going to be interesting to see who the other two are, as well as if Nintendo gives a reason for Toadette to appear in the Sprixie Kingdom as well. Toadette as a playable character in the game’s co-op mode, but she doesn’t accompany the Captain to the Sprixie Kingdom in 3D World’s backstory.Īnd that game only supported up to two players as well. Of course, that description still leaves a lot of room for further questions too.įor instance, who exactly will the extra players be during these levels? In Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker you had So if you’re playing through Super Mario 3D World with friends for the first time (or trying it out online), you’ll now be able to play together as Captain Toad and co too. That’s a welcome change, especially given the original version had these levels as single player only experiences. Play as brave Captain Toad and try to recover Green Stars in short puzzle stages with up to three other players!* A picture of the description for archive purposes As per the following description on the official website’s ‘Play Together’ page: ![]() ![]() ![]() “I was just trying to get myself out there. The fact that it grew so rapidly was something that just wasn't in my brain, but it happened and I'm still trying to understand how. I knew that I had some sort of a following, that they were loyal to my YouTube page and my covers, so I figured they would be loyal to my original music. I didn't even know what to expect from it. “Having original music out was the best part. Luckily, fans of her covers also became fans of her original work, which was her plan from the start. Twitter really helped me out with the following.” That's really what started my following I started on YouTube, but I think because on Twitter, the videos are a lot shorter and people's attention spans aren't. “I was like, ‘You know what, I don't want to be known for the covers anymore, I have original music out, I want to be known as an artist, as an individual.’ Ever since then I haven't really been posting covers like that. In 2015, she stopped singing other people’s songs and started releasing her own. I was not going to let it not happen.” Claudio started uploading covers to YouTube at 14, and Instagram and Twitter at around 17, but she was always writing original music. Now that everything's happening so quickly, I'm just trying to take it all in and not get lost in any of it. I'm a go-getter so it's going to happen regardless, but I didn't expect it to happen as fast as it did. “I feel like I always imagined it happening and I knew I would get to that point just because I'm always working. She shot up to viral fame over the past two years, but she isn't surprised by her success. The fans that I had before are so proud and happy that the project’s out. They’re watching it and they're super proud of it, so that makes me even more satisfied. “I don't typically look at charts or any of that kind of stuff, but my team does. Claudio says she's received "nothing but positive feedback" since releasing About Time in in October. It’s only a matter of time until everyone else follows suit. In addition to her loyal online fanbase, Claudio’s fellow breakout stars like Khalid, Daniel Casear, and 6lack, whom she’s opening for in her first-ever tour, are already giving her praise. The result is an alluring fusion of sounds. "When I find people who are musically influenced by that, we kind of just feed off of each other," she adds. ![]() But her cool, sultry vibe is intriguingly nonchalant, and it it permeates her sound, visuals and fashion sense.Ĭlaudio’s breathy vocals and tingly riffs are a perfect match for the soulful groove of her laid-back beats, and shine in hits like “Confidently Lost,” “Unravel Me” and “Belong to You.” It's obvious she listened to R&B growing up (she listening to Boyz II Men, Mariah Carey, Destiny’s Child, Usher, T-Pain and her dad's old-school favorites), but she also notes jazz and Bossa Nova as musical influences, which are obvious on songs like “Wait” and “Used To.” Her exposure to Latin music in Miami, like salsa and merengue, impacted her, too. ![]() So laziness is out of the question when it comes to her work ethic. “I work on my own music every day,” Claudio says in our interview. She officially released her debut EP, Confidently Lost, this March and followed up with a sophomore project, About Time, last month after crafting it for over a year. Two and a half years ago, she moved from her native Miami to Los Angeles to work on music full-time. The 21-year-old and self-dubbed "go-getter" started posting YouTube covers at age 14 to kickstart her singing career after her pursuits in dance and modeling fell flat. “Lazy, sexy, comfort” is how Sabrina Claudio sums up her personal style, which is characterized by slip dresses, bodycon silhouettes, plunging necklines, nude colors and soft textures but she could almost describe her music the same way-the chilled-out melodies, sensual lyrics, relaxing sounds and all.Įxcept, there’s nothing “lazy” about Claudio’s approach to music. ![]() ![]() Apply effects such as sepia, negative, grayscale or vintage.Īdd Text to Your ImagesLearn how to add text to your images to create captions, invitations and more.
